From 1990 to 2000 employment in Oxford grew by 32 percent. The years 2003 and 2004 were not so fortunate. Plant closings in the area reduced our manufacturing jobs by almost 800. Oxford has rebounded in the past twelve months by regaining over 50 of the jobs lost. As local industry expands, new construction begins and tourism continue to grow Oxford will quickly regain former employment levels, as well as new job growth.

Whirlpool is a good example of the industry that many Lafayette County residents have to their advantage. Currently the Oxford Division is the largest manufacturer of high-end built-in cooking products in the world. The division employs over 600 men and women from Oxford and the surrounding communities.

Quality job growth is considered essential to our future. Many of the positive steps taken by the Oxford leadership have been in support of both the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation, Inc.
